welcome
The mission of Gate City Christian Church is to "Lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ one person at a time" so that every person can find intimacy with God, community with other believers and make a difference in the lives of those around them.
We want everyone that comes through the door to experience the life changing power of Jesus Christ through exciting and dynamic worship to powerful life altering messages and through doing life together with others in CARE Groups.
We are not about doing church for the sake of tradition. Rather we will use every resource possible to help make the truth of Gods word and his plan for peoples lives available to everyone. Our goal is to honor God by allowing true and lasting change to take place in our lives so we have created an environment where it is alright to be yourself and where you are encouraged and challenged to grow.
Come take a risk and try something different for a change. Be a part of a life altering experience rather than just another Sunday in the pews (we use chairs). At Gate City it is not about the show but about the one who shows us the way.

ABOUT US
Gate City is a group of people from all walks of life who are being transformed by Jesus Christ. Every week, we join together to worship God and to experience a relevant and powerful message, which teaches truths from the Bible. We are passionate about sharing the love of Christ by caring for each other and positively impacting our communities.
The mission of Gate City Christian is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ one person at a time. This is the foundation for everything we do and is the basis of our ministry. We see the key to succeeding in life is learning to do life together and encourage every person to be connected to God and to other believers through CARE Groups.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What kind of church would you want to attend?
That is a question we ask a lot around here. And for us, we have some core values that are expressed each Sunday in every service we do.
Come As You Are!
Our dress code at Gate City is simply please do. You will find a casual environment where people are encouraged to be real.
Worship through music is a high priority!
We want everyone that comes through the door to experience the life changing power of worship through music. Because of that, we have upbeat, contemporary worship with a full band. It doesnt rock TOO much, but we want to praise God in a powerful way!
People should understand what is going on!
If the service doesnt make sense to people, why would anyone want to be a part of it. You won't hear big fancy words here. We want to keep things simple and straight forward. Everything we do helps us accomplish 2 simple life goals: to love God, and to love people. It doesnt have to get more complicated than that.
Sunday morning is only the starting point of the Christian week, not the point!
Life happens Sunday to Saturday. At Gate City, we are not about a show! Sunday Morning is the least important thing we do! Doing life together as Christians is the point. It helps us walk closer with God and each other.
C.A.R.E. Groups are the heartbeat of our church!
We don't just have small groups, we are small groups. Groups of 6 -12 people meeting together weekly for accountability, Bible Study, fellowship and prayer are key to the success of any Christian. We were never meant to do life alone. That is why it is so critical for us to be in relationship with other believers. C.A.R.E. (Connecting All Reaching Everyone) groups are one way that we can build spiritually based relationships to help each of us stay on track.
Kids Matter!
We dont want to shove our kids off into a corner somewhere and babysit while the real service goes on. We believe that children should have the opportunity to learn in a fun and focused environment. This will enable them to see the church as valuable and keep them from running from the church at their first opportunity.
We want to be known as a church that serves the community!
Too many churches are known for taking from the communities they exist in rather than for being a giving and generous force in the community. We want to be known as a church that loves its community. We want people to say, "Even though I dont go to church, if I did, that is the kind of church I would want to be a part of!"
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our church has grown for many reasons, the most important reason being, God has grown it. (Acts 2:47) We have made it our mission as a church and a team to be unified in the essentials. We want to give liberty and grace in the non-essentials and to love Gods way in everything. We try to be a place of truth and a place of love. We believe we glorify God by doing this.
John 17: 21-22
My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one
1 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT)
Now, dear brothers and sisters, I appeal to you by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ to stop arguing among yourselves. Let there be real harmony so there won't be divisions in the church. I plead with you to be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.
Our Belief Statements -These are non-negotiable.
About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Biblical references: Genesis 1:1, 26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; II Corinthians 13:14; I Peter 1:2.
About Jesus
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heavens glory and will return again someday to claim His own and take them to that same Heaven.
Biblical references: Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22, 23; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3, 4; I Corinthians 15:3,4;
I Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13; Hebrew 4:14, 15.
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, guidance in doing what is right, and is our intercessor. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.
Biblical references: John 14:16, 16:7-14, 17; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26-27; I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; II Corinthians 3:16-17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 5:18.
About the Bible
The Bible is Gods Word to us. Human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is God inspired, it is the truth without any mixture or error.
Biblical references: Ps. 119:105,160; Pr. 30:5-6; Mt. 5:18; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:20-21
About Spiritual Gifts
Few areas of theology within the church have caused more division than the subject of spiritual gifts. Some in our church believe all of the spiritual gifts spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12-14 are for today. Some believe some of the gifts are for today, some believe none of the gifts are for today. You can see the potential for problems.
• The Non-Negotiable - We do not believe that this subject constitutes a salvation issue.
• You can believe some of the gifts are for today and be wrong and still be a Christian.
• You can believe that all of the gifts are for today, and be wrong and still be a Christian.
• You can believe that none of the gifts are for today, and be wrong and still be a Christian.
For those who believe that the gifts are present today.
-Remember The Spirit of God does not work contrary to the Word of God.
Behavior that unifies
At Gate City it is okay to believe differently on this issue, but we will act in this way.
•Because this is a non-salvation area of contention between believers we will not have a place in our church where the gift of tongues is encouraged.
•We will not allow the discussion of a non-salvation issue to destroy the Lords work.
•We do believe God does miracles and answers our prayer, and through the work of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to serve Him and do good works.
Scripture references for churches where the gift of tongues and prophecy are used, there are rules for their use:
1. If someone speaks in a tongue it will be one at time. 1 Corinthians 14:27,33,40
2. There must be an interpreter. 1 Corinthians 14:28
3. There must be one who discerns whether it comes from God. 1 John 4:1
4. If it is a prayer language there is a place to pray. Matthew 6:6
5. All the gifts must be used to edify the church, not the individual. 1 Corinthians 14:4-5,26
6. No one has all the gifts, but the church is to be a body. 1 Corinthians 12:27-30
7. For those who believe prophecy is a gift active today, then the rules of a prophet apply.
About Eternal Security
(This is a non-salvation issue-You can be wrong about this issue and still be a Christian.)
Some have an Arminian background
• They believe that salvation can be gained and lost.
• Armenians do not believe that a bad decision means you lose your salvation.
• The way you can tell a person is a Christian is by their fruit - growth.
Scripture reference : Luke 15, Romans 11:22-23, Hebrews 6:4-7, 2 Peter 2:20
Some have a Calvinistic background
• They believe that salvation can not be lost.
• Calvinists do not believe you can do whatever you want and be a Christian.
• If a person is not showing fruit and growth then they were never saved to start with.
Scripture references: John 10:28, Romans 8:29-30, 1 John 2:9,
• Either bent leads to knowing people are Christians by their fruit.
• In our church we encourage everyone to grow in Christ.
About Communion
Communion at Gate City is defined as scripture defines it.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lords death until he comes.
• Communion is a memorial.
• Communion is a new covenant.
• Communion is a proclamation.
When we take it, we do so in a worthy manner.
1 Corinthians 11: 27-28
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
We do this by self-examination.
• Do I have any sins to confess? (1John 1:9)
• Relationships to repair? (Matthew 5:23-24)
• Do I need to recommit my life? (Romans 12:1)
It is a distinctive of our church that we offer communion every week. We do not believe you have to take communion every week, however when you do partake in it, do so in a correct manner.
(1 Corinthians 11:25-28)
Who should take it?
•Only those who believe.
•We do not recommend young children who do not understand salvation and the relationship, take it.
About the Priesthood of Every Believer
The Bible teaches that every Christian is called to full time Christian service, regardless of his or her vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every believer has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading. We believe people are called to witness and to minister.
Revelation 1:6a (NASB95)
...and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
About The End Times(This is a non- salvation issue)
We have people with many views on this issue in our church. Some are pre-millennial, others are amillennial, and there are various other differing views. But, this is not a salvation issue. We believe that there will be a literal return of Christ, a rapture, and a Judgment Day.
About People
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.
Biblical references: Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 3:23
About Eternity
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
Biblical references: John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; Revelation 20:15
About Tithing/Giving
At Gate City we practice giving financially for the support of Christs body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the Biblical standard of giving.
Leviticus 27:30
A tithe of everything you produce belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.
Malachi 3:7-12
Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD Almighty. But you ask, How are we to return? Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, How do we rob you? In tithes and offerings. You are under a cursethe whole nation of youbecause you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit, says the LORD Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land, says the LORD Almighty.
For those who claim the tithe is an Old Testament concept
Jesus Endorsed Tithing in Matthew 23:23
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

WOMEN'S MINISTRY
We want to reach the world for Jesus one person at a time. Sometimes people can get lost in the crowd. That is why we have CARE groups so there is an opportunity for people to be a part of environment where they can develop meaningful relationships.
In these relationships people help each other follow Christ, be changed by Christ and participate in Christs mission as they share life and study Gods word together. All women are welcome to join these groups.
This is an opportunity for women to gather in a small group for growing relationships with each other and with God. Each small group has a facilitator, opportunity to get to know and be known by other women, and time to study God's word together.
Each of us is given a journey in life, and we were not meant to do it alone but in relationship with each other and with our Creator. This is a time to journey together.
REAL MEN - MEN'S MINISTRY
The purpose of Real Men is to create a culture of men realizing and working within their God given design, position and authority
* Fulfilling the Great Commission Matthew 28:18-19,20
* Leading/Loving/Serving their families-Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 3:19-21, Deuteronomy 6:5-10, 20
* Living life in light of Gods Word Hebrews 4:12-13, Romans 10:8, Colossians 3:16
* Growing in our knowledge of God. 2 Peter 1:1-11
As Real Men we need to take a lesson from the Rhino. The reason behind the Rhino, is that it is a reminder from Gods creation of what the heart and mind of one who is a follower of Christ can be.
The idea for the rhino came from the book, The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus.
In his book, McManus describes different designations for groups of animals; pod of whales, herd of cattle etc.The designation for the rhino is a crash. Despite the size of a rhino, 4 to 6 thousand pounds, they can run up to 30 mph.
The deal is, rhinos can only see approximately 30 feet in front of them. Because of their size and potential they arent concerned about whats beyond 30 feet. They live and move within their God given design.
As Gods sons, (Galatians 4:4-6, 2 Corinthians 6:18) we need not be paralyzed by fears or indecision concerning what the future holds. We will live within our design and position as Gods sons, trusting and abiding in Him (John 15).
If all we can see is 30 feet out, then we will trust God with that and move in concert as men unified in Christ (John 17:20-23). Real Men can be a human version of a Crash, as we grow in our knowledge of God not just knowing about God. 2 Peter 1:1-11
WORSHIP ARTS
Great effort is given to maintain the vertical focus of worship toward God at Gate City. It is not about a show but about the one who shows us the way.
We strive for creative excellence as we tell the story of Jesus Christ, and invite people into an encounter with God where He is glorified in our heart response.

Sharing Heavens Abundance Reaching Everyone
And dont forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. Hebrews 13:16 NLT
Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 1 Timothy 6:18 NLT
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.
Acts 4:32 NLT
The purpose of the S.H.A.R.E. ministry is to assist in meeting the physical and financial needs of the body and the community by sharing the resources and blessings that God has provided to us. The blessing of sharing our abundance to meet needs is seen throughout the New Testament and demonstrates to the community what it means to be the Church
The first level of sharing occurs within C.A.R.E. Groups. If someone in the group is in need the group leader will work with others in their group to meet the need. If the group cannot meet the need completely then other C.A.R.E. Groups are contacted to help meet the need. If the need is still unmet then it will be published to the whole church.
If someone is not in a C.A.R.E. Group and has a need then that need will be published to the whole church. You can identify needs by contact the church office, 237-5002 or by using a S.H.A.R.E. Card. Complete the card and place it in the Communication Box or turn it into the church office for tracking and coordination. Needs will be reviewed, verified and published through email and posting in the foyer of the church.
If you can help meet all or part of a need fill out a S.H.A.R.E. Envelope and place it in the Communication Box or contact the church office about meeting the need.

WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD
Jr. High and Sr. High are crazy enough times to try to get through on your own, so we have decided to live life with the only Power that can make sense of the chaos. Knowing God not just talking about him is all that works!
So often when you think of church you think of a bunch of people spouting off a list of rules and forcing everyone to obey them. Unfortunately no matter how hard you try to be perfect you will not grow closer to God through the following of rules. It's not like once you are perfect than God will accept you and life will be O.K..
Rather we focus on talking with, listening to, experiencing God. Every activity is designed to help you get to know a very real, alive, and active God. Then once we know God and are
connected to Him we find ourselves wanting to follow and live in a way that leaves no regrets, guilt or doubt. Literally we change once we have come to truly know who God is and how
much he desires to be a part of our lives.
So that is why we do what we do. We focus solely on growing in relationship with God and find our lives making sense and changing for the better in the process. Honestly it is the most exciting and challenging experience you will ever be a part of and one you will never come to regret.
You will get to know other students, share you struggles and successes with them. Discover what it means to have friends that are true and unwavering. You will become a part of something that will never leave you feeling alone again. But it takes guts, it takes determination, it takes effort; however the reward is you will know who you are, why you are here, and have a permanent team to live life with. Sound worth it?

CHILDREN MATTER TO US
Our Philosophy of Learning
It is our conviction that children require active, age-appropriate teaching in order to fully enjoy the learning process. Waumba and Adventure Land has all of their classrooms and curriculum to designed to meet the specific needs of your child. You will not find permanent tables or chairs, nor will you find your child simply filling out worksheets or coloring. We are convinced that for a child to learn they must engage not only their mind but their body as well its called ACTIVE LEARNING.
Active learning involves acting out stories, building objects, constructing projects, singing songs, lesson-appropriate games, and always some tangible object to take home to serve as a reminder of what they learned.
WAUMBA LAND
(Infants and Toddlers)
Waumba is Swahili for Creator. We value our children and because of this we value those who work with them. As a parent, you can be assured that all the staff who participate have been screened with an application process and background check.
Infants
The Infant Room is for infants through crawlers. It was designed with mothers and babies in mind. We offer a place they can feel comfortable to bring their babies but still be able to observe and listen to the service. The room is furnished with safety checked equipment and age appropriate toys. Caregivers and helpers interact and show Gods love to these precious ones.
Toddlers
Once a child is able to walk and get around on their own they are ready to move to the Toddler Room. In the Toddler Room we use objects for kids to touch, wild and wiggly activities to get them moving, crafts, singing and teach them from God's Word. Our goal is to help each child master one concept at a time by creatively repeating it in a way that it will stick.
Preschoolers
The Preschool Room is for children ages 3 - 5. Each week we begin with creative activities to introduce the day's story. Next, the group participates in a time that includes a Bible story and singing. Then the kids work on a project that they take home to remind them of the Bible story taught.
In the Toddler and Preschool Room the key strategies used are:
1.) Teach less for more - Repeat one key truth all
month long.
2.) Engage the five senses.
3.) Teach with the goal that by the age of five every
child will believe:
God Made Me
God Loves Me
Jesus Wants to be My Friend Forever
4.) To experience worship through singing.
ADVENTURE LAND
(K - 5th grade)
In Adventure Land our mission is to lead children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by creating environments where children learn to 1) trust God no matter what, 2) to make wise choices, and 3) to treat others as they want to be treated.
In K-5th, kids are given their own age-appropriate church experience that includes the elements of the very first church, as mentioned in Acts chapter 2.
These elements include:
* Meeting as a Large group for active worship and reflective prayer.
* Meeting in Smaller Groups to explore Bible truths, take action by serving, and community service projects.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Child Sign-In
All children, infant-5th grade must be signed into class by their parents. This ensures children are placed in the proper classes and that parents have authorized their childs attendance.
Security IDs
Every parent will receive a security ID with their child's picture, name, class assignment, ID number and parents name. Parents must return the ID card to claim their child after the worship service. This is for you and your comfort and the childs safety, ensuring that no child will be released to the wrong individual.

COLLEGE
For our college students we encourage them to get involved in Chi Alpha Campus Ministries on the Idaho State University campus as well as "FUSION", our Young Adult Care Group (see CARE Groups). Chi Alpha Campus Ministries is a Christian campus ministry on universities throughout the United States and around the world. They are a movement of college-age men and women earnestly following Jesus. They are not a fraternity or sorority. You are invited to be a part of what they do regardless of your background.
They meet on campus weekly on Wednesday evenings. These gatherings are informal, infused with music and interaction, and cover topics from relationships to the nature of truth. These meetings are opportunities for students to meet God, each other, and the needs of the community. They also have small groups to encourage close relationships with other students. Check out their website at www.isuxa.com for more about meeting times, location and activities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
We believe that we must be an active part of our community helping to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors. Because of the desire we are forming DMs(Difference Makers) with opportunities to lend their time, talents and heart to various community activities.
We also have annual community events like our Back To School supply give away that helps underprivileged children and families with school supplies and clothing for the coming year.
If you would like to know more about community services opportunities you can download our brochure or contact the office at office_gatecitychristian.com.
Current Series: iDo
Standing at the altar, we all had a picture of what our marriage would look like. The problem is this picture of marriage results in expectations that we unload on our spouse. The weight of these expectations will rob your marriage of love and joy. As a spouse you never feel like you measure up and you never feel like you are good enough.
So what are you to do with your expectations? You can't deny them, because most expectations started out as God-given desires. In this series, This series explains that you must learn to transform your expectations and look to God if you are to experience marriage as it was designed.
WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO UPLOAD OUR PODCAST DUE TO A TECHNICAL ISSUE. WE WILL POST THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
